Other heart rhythm disorders

Atrial fibrillation is by far the most common heart rhythm disorder. However, there are a number of other heart rhythm disorders that can cause episodes of rapid heartbeat. They can either originate from the atria of the heart, from the AV node, from the ventricles of the heart or be due to extra conduction pathways between the atria and ventricles.

Other cardiac arrhythmias that may be a problem are atrial flutter, AVNRT, WPW, focal atrial tachycardia, ventricular tachycardia (rapid heartbeat attacks from the pump chambers), ventricular extrasystoles (extra beats from the heart chambers) and atrial extrasystoles (extra beats from the anterior chambers).
